It’s rare to come across a game you play so long that you have to shower after dropping a policy. That’s truly how addictive Crossy Road’s can be. Hipster Whale, the developers who are responsible for this spiritual successor to the arcade game Frogger released the title December 20. This game is much deeper than it appears at first glance. There are over 50 unlockable free characters to be played, and additional figures that can be purchased. One thing that can be noted is how they created a “try before you buy” method of in-game purchasing, It’s refreshing to see this creative new way of advertising.

I’m not the type to turn my back on a classic, but this rendition of Frogger may have led me to it.  The combination of excellent graphics and detailed sound effects leaves you entranced into one of the most addictive games out on the market. The surprising level of deepness is what keeps me coming back. Every character has their own little shtick, Festive Chicken gets a snowed covered xmas themed level, while Frankenstein is given a vintage black and white filtered skin. All of these characters are unlocked either with an in-game purchase of $.99, or from collecting 100 coins. Every once in a blue moon the game gifts you a box containing a random amount of coins, the highest I ever received was about 500. The last way of obtaining coins is by watching ads in between rounds. The controls to Crossy Road are simple and makes it easy to pick up and play. Their was never any point while playing did I ever feel frustrated or cheated by the UI. My high score is 150, if you want to try to crack it. The app is free in both the App Store and on Amazon.
